If you follow me on insta @biscuitsbulgogi you’ve seen pics from my Rocky Mountain adventure. Yesterday I pushed myself hard! We hiked to Emerald Lake at an alt of 10,110 ft (3.6 mi total, half a day hike).
I’ll be completely honest, I had a hard time acclimating to the elevation. I would walk a few steps, take a few deep breaths, and have to rest. But the hike was well worth getting out of my comfort zone. The whole trek was an adventure for me and being surrounded by all the beauty was SO breathtaking.
One of my favorite moments was when we stopped for a quick lunch once we made it to Emerald Lake, finding the perfect rock to relax on. The sun was warm and air was so fresh! The pic below is of me leaving our picnic site. I’m not going to lie, I overthink every step (much like life 😆).
I have to admit, I was a little worried making my way back because most of the steps are down hill in snow, ice, and slush. But with the help from my trusty hiking poles and shoe spikes I made it down like a champ.
Unfortunately, at the end of the day I discovered what altitude sickness truly is. I ended up with chills, nausea and no appetite once we got back in town. All I could do was lay down and rest in our room. Thankfully, I feel so much better now. I should have prepped my body better by drinking tons of water before heading to Colorado and taking an ibuprofen before the hike. Live and learn! I won’t make that mistake again.
And even though I had a bit of a hard time last night, I have no regrets pushing myself yesterday. It was so worth it. Come see the Rockies! They are waiting for you!
